This knife is remarkable, it came beautiful packaged. The wooden box was beautiful itself but the knife blew my mind. Razor sharp edge, mirror polish, and insane detail. I use this knife for everything. It will be my favorite. I honestly care for this knife so much my girlfriend is a bit jealous. BUY THIS KNIFE!!!!!
Bought this for my boyfriend, he absolutely loves it!! Great weight and sharp too!
This knife looks amazing for starters. It fits perfectly in my hand. It’s comfortable and it cuts with ease. I am glad that I added this to my collection and I am looking for to adding more Vetus knives to my collection.
For the price, this is a "decent" knife. It cuts well out of the box, and looks nice. I got this around a year ago and it came with a wood handle and was as pictured and described. My biggest problem with this knife is that it cuts me. I use knives everyday, all the the time. for some reason, this one always bites me when chopping vegetables. I now only really use it as more of a breaking knife or serving knife.
Let’s start with the handle. Wangy wood is likely a deliberate misspelling of “wenge” wood. I say deliberate because the handle is actually plastic, complete with mold lines. The balance is subpar and the edge is comical and nowhere near 15 degrees but the handle itself makes the knife feel cheap. Granted it IS cheap but it’s not easily overlooked.
Not my first time ordering from Vetus and definitely won't be my last. Always top notch quality.
I work in a high end restaurant owned by a world famous chef. Presentation is as important as taste. It is a busy place with lots to do. You learn quickly what type of tool is needed for a particular job. In this instance I am in need of something to chop crab and lobster bodies into pieces to prepare stock. Points added if it also looks cool. More points if the tool can be used for more than one application. This knife looked cool (it does), Looked heavy enough to chop through a lobster (it is) and also looked curved enough to do some fine chopping. (it....welllll....) Take a look the photo, The knife I received is standing on its business end. Edge down, Look at the sliver of white between the belly and the back edge (heel) of the blade. That sliver of white is actually sunlight streaming under the knife blade. That sliver represents the useless part of the knife that should be able to cut. Instead of producing finely chopped anything you get an accordion looking thing.Major drawback to this knife. It's weight also makes it impractical for any extended use as a fine chopper. However and since I have sharpened it, it will definitely chop through a lobster. Hence the 2 stars. After i grind down the heel if the knife so the whole edge can be utilized I might upgrade to 3 stars.
The knife came in and my initial thought was that it was very pretty. The blade was somewhat sharp but the black on the blade kept coming off..no matter how much you try to stop it. Also the handle feels very very cheap.Just spend the extra to get a good chef knife. They will last much longer.
The knife itself is good but the sheath is designed bad. the knife lock and string just falls off and is difficult to put back together. it doesn’t go back together the way it came.
The packaging impresses right off the bat with a net very nice wooden sheath and box. Knife has a gorgeous mirror polish that I definitely did not expect from a knife at this price point. Very handsome, feels great in the hand, very nicely contoured handle and the forged finish on the top of the blade aids in food release. Put it through its Paces with potatoes, onions and carrots. Performed well. Even used it to peel three pineapples. At the end of this test it has lost most of its cage but a quick strop brought it roaring back to life. Highly recommended for any home cook looking to step into some higher-end cutlery. For the purpose of this review this knife was provided to me free of charge I have done my best to give an accurate representation of the knife and its capabilities without letting it affect the Integrity of the review.
