Very knifeish
Bought this for my 4yr old and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve had pocket knives my entire life and I had been itching to give/buy my son a knife. Whilst searching for whistles for outdoor activities/safety I came across this. I did buy a regular whistle “WE Titanium Keychain Whistle” also amazing. This knife is wonderful all around. The craftsmanship and function of this knife is just wonderful. All proper thought went into what would be perfect for children. The blunt, un-sharpened tip is almost fool proof. I purposely (DO NOT TRY) attempted to “stab/poke” my finger to see how aggressive I could be “on accident” and I did not manage to cut myself. The locking collar is such a wonderful upgrade for a child’s knife. This is not ment to undo rigorous abuse in the field. It is meant to teach a kid how to properly use a tool & this company provided probably the best possible learning device for children to safely and properly learn how to be come sufficient with a daily but also potential life saving tool. Thank you for providing this to the market. Honestly might get one for me and momma also. The whistle is an added bonus. What a great way to incorporate another potential life saving/communication tool.
I own around 20 opinel knives and each one has its purpose for my many needs. The number 7 outdoor junior has a great function though for backpacking or any outdoor activity as the handle is composite a won't swell when it gets wet. Clean up is easy too because you don't have to worry about getting the knife drenched during wash up. Also the tip is rounded which makes for great spreading for sandwiches and such. The whistle is decent add on too.
Like the unlocking feature of this knife for my 11 year old to use. She likes the size and says it’s comfortable and easy for her to use for scouts.
This knife is very difficult to open. Especially for a kid. I had to remove the locking ring and use a screw driver and pliers to open it up a bunch. That helped.
The knife is for a young kid but i use it. It is waterproof and really holds an edge. I sharpened it all the way to the end. It is as sharp as a chefs carving knife. After a rough day of use I stone it lightly by hand and the edge is back in a couple minutes. Don't let it fool you it can be used by an adult, just sharpen it all the way. I use the whistle to call my dog.
My kids are enjoying this knife it closes securely and has been easy for them to work with to whittle.
Santa brought this knife for my 7 year old. It’s his first real knife. It’s sharp enough for him to be able to actually use it to make/cut stuff (like marshmallow roasting sticks), and the tip is rounded enough for me not to worry about any accidental stabbings. We keep it in the kitchen drawer, and he has to ask to use it, and always lock it after use. He already cut himself once, opening a cardboard box, so he now officially knows how sharp it is and handles it more carefully. We live in an area with bears and other wildlife, so the whistle is a nice safety feature for when we’re in more secluded and woodsy areas.I personally wish this version with the whistle came in wood, but I think my kid likes the cool blue rubber better. All in all, this knife is exactly what I wanted it to be. Recommended!
I prefer Opinel's polymer handles since I don't have to be worried about moisture damaging the wood and I find the no. 7 to be the perfect EDC size. Despite being a kids knife, the only difference is the blunt tip which is not much of an issue for my EDC use. If you want a sharp tip, the handle is compatible with a regular no. 7 blade.Loses a star because I had to order this knife twice since the first one came with a bent blade which I promptly returned. Both knifes had a practically unusable factory edge with a huge burr along the entire edge. I was able to easily get it to shaving sharp with a ceramic rod and leather strop, but I expect better from Opinel.
I bought this for my 10-year-old granddaughter, who expressed an interest in whittling. I was attracted to the vibrant colors, the small size and rounded end, and what appeared to be an efficient, safe folding mechanism. We're quite satisfied, though we had to correct what seems to be a small design flaw: a metal ring must be rotated to lock or release the folding mechanism but was so tight that even the adults could not move it. We finally pried outward on it with a small screwdriver until it was stretched enough to turn freely. Since then, my granddaughter has enjoyed whittling numerous figurines. Be warned, though, this should not be used without careful advance instruction, as it is quite sharp and will slice flesh as well as wood!
