About this item

Flagship Size: The Number 8 is the most sold and versatile size in the ever-growing line of Opinel folding pocket knives, earning its reputation as an everyday carry staple. 3. 35inch blade (8. 5cm), open length 7. 5 inches (19. 5cm).
Carbon Steel Blade: Extremely hard thereby ing excellent cutting quality, good wear resistance, and easy regrinding. Carbon steel can corrode easily, maintain your knife by avoiding damp locations, and wipe and grease the blade after use.
Beechwood Handle: The ergonomic shape of the traditional wooden handle has remained unchanged since its design in 1890. Beech wood, locally called “fayard”, is mostly used. Its grain is fine and homogenous, providing excellent mechanical strength.
Patented Virobloc System: A hallmark of Opinel everyday carry knives since it’s invention in 1955, the Virobloc ring offers a unique, thoughtful, and easy to use safety mechanism for locking the blade during use, during transport, and during storage.
An Icon of French EDC: Produced in the heart of the French Alps since 1890, Opinel pocket knives draw simplicity and durability from their mountain roots. The Opinel folding knife has been adopted worldwide and is recognized as a design icon.

Got for my husband for Christmas. He loves it!!

  • JPF

Nice presentation box. I've been getting other sizes of the Opinel knives and this one was a gift. This one has the carbon blade so if you want stainless steel be sure to check.

Great knife for the price. I own a few of these now and this one was a gift for my sister. Very thin blade, great for slicing. Between the thinness and the clip point it's got a very delicate tip so, know the knife's limits and use it properly or you'll likely damage it. Simple locking system will keep the knife open or closed. Can't be opened or closed one handed. No lanyard hole or pocket clip on the knife itself but the sheath can be clipped to a belt or belt loop or lanyard/key ring. Leather sheath is fine, too thin to hold up to much abuse but should last a while just hanging on your belt. Carbon steel WILL rust if it stays wet so make sure to dry the knife after use and oil periodically. Blade will likely patina with regular use, especially if used to slice anything acidic, which is fine, even desirable sometimes. This one comes in a fancy gift box which raises the cost but it looks much nicer if you're buying it as a gift. If not, don't bother and just look for the knife on it's own, it'll safe you about $10.

Nice knife. Great blade. Minimalist body and locking mechanism. Wish I had ordered the stainless steel version. In my area, I'm afraid that the humidity will take its toll on the blade.

I love these knives, they are not the strongest or the toughest, but they are light, full size and have a very keen edge perfect for delicate work like grafting fruit tree branches, sharpening pencils, and harvesting food from the garden. The spine on the back is very sharp and will throw excellent sparks off a ferro rod. I always keep on of these in my pocket.

This is a nice knife. It's very light weight and could easily be put in a jacket pocket and forgotten about it's so light. I haven't used it yet but the presentation of the box makes me not want to take it out. I was surprised to find that it was shipped from Germany and you can't beat free shipping from Europe and I received it two weeks after I ordered it. The case is nice and the leather is thin but soft to the touch. I would say its not really a work knife but one for casual use or for a picnic basket. I'm a little afraid to be to hard on it tho because I don't want the blade to break sense its carbon steel. I'm also in the maritime industry so I feel if I take it on a ship it might corrode easily.

Like that it comes in a wooden gift box, nice knife.

I previously owned an Opinel Carbone and just lost it! I was heartbroken because it was THE BEST utility knife I ever owned. Simple design, and a high carbon steel blade that maintained an edge much longer than any stainless steel blade. The locking mechanism is a simple twist of a collar at the center point of the knife. If you're looking for beauty over functionality, pick a stainless model. But if you don't mind the extra maintenance of the high carbon blade, it will reward you with a razor edge that DOES NOT go dull very easily. You cannot go wrong buying ANY Opinel knife. Enjoy!

Nice packaging but the knife was not secure, locked, or closed. The knife sits freely with the blade open and nothing to hold it in place. When I received it, the blade was out of its slot in the package, and there was a ding/ chip in the blade. I was able to easily sharpen the chip out but that should not have happened. The 12C27 Opinel blades do not chip in my experience. The locking collar also has a dent in it as if someone has already been using it for quite some time. None of my other Opinel knives have come that way. The sheath is very thin and in my opinion, not quality. Save your money and just buy the knife, without the cost of a wooden box and sheath.

  • Haraldur

The title says it all. The knife arrived loose in the box with a damaged edge. I went with this version for the sheath. Recommend a version where the knife is packed in closed position and buy the sheath separately.
