I almost don’t want to give this knife credit so I can gatekeep this product and keep the price down. I’ve owned Benchmade Bugouts exclusively and bought this knife as a “beater” but now, I’m not sure which one to beat up more. The blade comes beautifully sharpened, handle feels great, and it feels like a product that should cost $150. Props.
The size and shape reminds me of a swiss army knife. Very light 2.13 ozThe handle is very grippy in the hand but not clingy to clothes so it’s not rubbery but instead it is coarse
I wanted a pocket knife that was comfortable to carry in my pocket. This knife is not fancy, it simply gets the job done.
The media could not be loaded. This knife comes in a pretty nice and sturdy branded pull up type of box and includes a documentation sheet and a wipe/polish cloth. Good presentation and would make for a good gift.Taking the knife out of the small plastic bag, the first thing that struck was just how diminutive and “cute” it was and the very straight-forward, “clean” design of the handle. There’s really not much going on but that’s not a bad thing. I am getting tired of knives looking “busy” just the sake of doing so. Upon closer inspection, I was impressed by the fit and finish. The G10 scales are dyed striking bright red, just like in the pictures, have a nice texture to them and are well rounded all over. The blade was completely hidden in the handle (other than the flipper tab) and was well-centered between the matching black scales. The also-matching black pocket clip is of a solid “deep carry” design, but the crews are not recessed. There’s very little “hardware” – only the pivot screw (captured), two scale screws (one for each scale) and two for the clip. Once again, very “clean” and pretty impressive. The little lanyard hole is really more of a key ring hole. The weight is light but not insubstantial, which I prefer. There is no weight-reducing milling on the very straight-forward, non-recessed liners.I “push-buttoned” the flipper and got a solid deployment and lock-up. Same with “light-switching”. The action is a little anemic compared to what I prefer, thanks to a weaker detent but the pivot bearings do their job and ensure a smooth, quick deployment and lock up every time. The stronger detent strength is just a personal preference. This knife is obviously designed with the ladies in mind, and they’d benefit from having detent like this, that’s on a weaker side. The liner lock lockup was good, with substantial engagement but also being easy to disengage, helped by a convenient cut out in the right side of the handle. There was no sign of lock rock or detent lash and the blade locked up with no movement. So, the action on this knife is good if not "drop shut" perfect..The blade is a very “clean” (using that word again), flat grind drop point. The black finish is good, with the only etchings being a “D2” by the bolster and a rather conspicuous “OLITANS” on the left side. The D2 tool steel is a solid performer in this price range, at least when properly heat treated. It holds its edge very well but does require a bit more care as it’s not a stainless steel. My copy of the knife came with a bit of oil on the pivot and the blade, which is good to see, even though it does take a little extra effort to wipe off before use. I was pleasantly surprised by how sharp this knife came. The nice edge, combined with excellent cutting geometry, make this blade excel at slicing paper. Cutting paracord and sharpening a stick also yielded impressive results.Ergonomics-wise, this knife really doesn’t have a lot going on due to the very simple design and lines. However, as I already mentioned, all the edges are perfectly rounded and chamfered, with nothing sticking out or feeling pokey. The handle is just long enough for a four-finger grip and feels good to hold overall. The pocket clip doesn’t create much of a hot spot. The scales have a texture that’s effective at keeping your fingers from slipping on the blade. So yeah, for such a simple small folding knife, the ergonomics are solid and perfectly sufficient for some extended cutting sessions.Complaints? Well, the pocket clip is not reversible for leftie carry. Also, while one of the product photos suggests that it could be used as a keyring knife, due to the flipper design and lighter detent, I’d have reservations using it as such. It could result in unintentional opening inside your pocket and a nasty poke.Overall, it’s an attractive, good quality and practical small pocket folding knife. All things considered; I definitely recommend it to anyone in need of such a knife. In particular, it would make for a rather nice lady's purse knife.
The media could not be loaded. Small and discreet perfect for someone who wants an unintimidating knife for opening boxes and letters or peeling an apple. Plenty sharp and sturdy for small knife task. Has lightly textured handle scales that give it the proper amount of grippyness, a lanyard hole, and a pocket clip that unfortunately isn’t movable.
The media could not be loaded. I've never had a pocket knife, but wanted one to take with me for self defense when I'm jogging early mornings or at night. This is small and light and you can hold it right in the palm of your hand. It also has a clip you can use to anchor it in a pocket like you would a pen. It was easy to open, but then I didn't know how to close it back up. I had to watch a few YouTube videos in order to learn how to do it. So, I'm attaching a video on how to do it for all you ladies who are facing the same quandary.I like this pocket knife and I'm glad I got it. It's the perfect size to have on me. It's about 3.5 inches long, less than an inch wide (3/4") and weighs only 2 oz. It fits right in the palm of my hand. It's easy to open, once you practice opening it a few dozen times. Holding it firmly on the bottom with one hand and flipping it open with the other is the best way to do it. Closing it is easy too, once you figure out how to do it (watch the video I uploaded). The blade is 3 inches long and is very sharp. I feel safer with this thing in my hand when I'm jogging alone early mornings or at night.
I collect and carry a lot of different pocket knives depending on what I'm doing that day or what I'm wearing and I picked this one up because I like the look of the "jade" G10.Overall I'm very happy with the knife. It's on the smaller side with the 2.75" blade and the handle itself is thin. The G10 feels a bit thinner than some of the other knife scales I've had, but it allows for a very light, easy to hold knife that doesn't feel heavy or uncomfortable in the pocket. The carry clip lets the knife sit fairly deep in your pocket so if you're worried about that, it's not an issue. The only way I see to deploy the blade is with the flipper on the back and it works well. The knife itself is not an open assist knife, but it opens and closes smoothly and easily. Out of the box the knife was sharp enough to cut through printer paper and I worked it into my EDC rotation right away.
This little knife is very well done. The G10 scales are nicely rounded at the edges and the texture is grippy. The D2 blade is thin enough to work very well on a small knife like this, and the full flat grind gets down very thin at the edge. The knife came sharp enough to shave hair and the grind is reasonably even. The flipping action is great. The detent is fairly strong, so it's basically impossible to mess up. Once you break the detent, the blade shoots out fast. Lockup is solid on mine, I "spine wacked" it pretty hard and it held up fine. No wiggle in the blade when it's opened or closed. The pocket clip is perfect. Slides in and out smoothly. The only suggestions id make to Olitans is, put some texture on the flipper tab and make a better plunge grind/sharpening choil.Very good knife for $25, if you're looking for a small knife to do some light work, this is a good choice.
This is a very nice, compact knife. The edge came properly sharp with good steel, the action was well-oiled and super smooth, and the handle scales were nicely finished without any sharp or uncomfortable edges. This knife is fantastic. The belt clip is the perfect tension and I haven't had it slip from the spot I put it on once in the week I've been carrying this. It only moves when I want to take it out. The knife comes in a nicely made and branded box so the presentation is great. It's a small knife compared to some other EDCs, but it fits my preference and I can highly recommend this to both a collector and a user.
The media could not be loaded. I found this knife to be really nice, both in function and appearance. It opens and closes very smoothly and the handle feels very nice when in hand. There are no rough edges on the case or with the finishing. The blade feels sharp as a razor and also looks well finished.I wasn’t entirely sure about how the jade color was going to look in person, but I have to say it is impressive for what it is. It does look a lot like very light colored jade. A very different look from many other knives I have, so it will be a great addition to my collection.Overall a very nice little knife and I’m very happy with it. This would be a good option to consider at its price point.
