Opinel's stainless steel blades are made of Sandvik 12C27 modified stainless steel. It is anti-corrosive thanks to the addition of chromium and requires no special maintenance. Its carbon content of at least 0. 40% provides an excellent cutting edge. Each blade is stamped with the "Crowned Hand" mark. In 1909, Joseph Opinel chose the Crowned Hand emblem for his knives as a symbol to represent the origin and quality of Opinel knives.
Thanks to its high tannin content, the oak wood handle has a yellow-brown appearance, with regular veining. To prevent a negative impact on the environment (pollution from transport, deforestation . . . ), 95% of the wood for handles comes from sustainably managed French forests.
Invented by Marcel Opinel in 1955, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all folding knives as of the No 06. Cut out of stainless steel, the Virobloc has two sections, one fixed and one sliding. In addition to locking the blade open (safety in use), it is now possible to lock the blade closed (safety in transport)

Whether you already like Opinel knives and want something a little special, or you're new to them, you'll enjoy this. I've only been using it for a couple days so there's still some stiffness in the lock, but overall this knife is extremely enjoyable to carry.
This knife is reserved for those who don’t feel the need to compensate. It’s a no frills yet perfect functioning folder for edc. It fits nicely in the hand, provides excellent control, holds an edge nicely, locks closed or open securely(albeit not quickly or one handed), and fits unobtrusively in one’s pocket. I have no concerns about it standing the rest of time.
I really love the look of the knife, and it feels very well made. However, knocking off a star because the tip isn't sharp. You can see from the pic that the blade is razor sharp right up to the tip, which still black and dull.
Worth the extra price for the higher quality material
Didn't buy from Amazon but he loves this knives... I'm going to order another one and one for myself for the kitchen from Amazon .
Opinel makes great knives. I've always liked them for there quality, ergonomic design, functionality and cost. You can't buy a better knife for the price or even a higher price. That's where this model falls short. You can see in the pictures it came with almost no bevel. For the cost it should have at least come sharp. My previous carbon No.8 came sharp, and was ready to use. Not this one. The black coating and oak handle don't justify triple the price. Neither does a stainless steel blade. It comes in a very nice gift box, but I would trade that in a heart beat for carbon steel and a knife I didn't need to spend 30 minutes properly beveling and sharpening out of the box. Save your money, buy a carbon No.8 with beech handle for a 3rd the cost. You'll be happier.
Light, sharp, timeless
I have had Opinel knives for 50 years. They are light, dependable. The last 2 I ordered whereas expected except for the blade; the reverse side on the knives were rolled and needed quite a bit of time to get a good sharp edge. This is my only complaint.
The media could not be loaded. The locking mechanism is falsely advertised. Breaks immediately with pressure. Very dangerous. Do NOT buy. Look at my finger it caved in on it in seconds.
Not the sellers fault, but the hand was all banged up. The manufacturer thought it would be wise to put the knife in a wood box where it flung itself against the sides of said box. SMH
