Perfect little knife, there's a reason they've been making them for so long! The grip feels nice, the locking mechanism is brilliant, and the leather sheath is a great addition too. Very light and affordable but without suffering from poor quality like many other comparable knives. I'd definitely recommend it and plan to buy more!
In my opinion, it’s the perfect knife for camping or backpacking very light sharp right out of the package. Highly recommend.
The knife looks like cheap stamped steel that’s been sharpened but after using it a few times, I don’t think it’s cheap anymore. I’ve use this knife to harvest mushrooms, flowers, and vegetables. It stays sharp for the day and doesn’t take much to get it back to sharp. I think this is going to become my favorite gardening knife.
Great quality
Light weight, sturdy, extremely sharp out of the box, and comfortable handle. This is my first Opinel knife but can honestly say no further need to explore others. I first saw this knife in a Bespoke Post Box but, found it cheaper here. Glad I did. I carry it on my belt every day. I use it for cooking in the kitchen, carving sticks, cutting rope and cords, nylon straps. I use it every day for anything and everything. And, no. need to sharpen it after one month of daily use. I suggest buying the item with sheath so you can quickly attach it to your belt. And the price is awesome.
Was surprised on how light it is. Locking blade is a plus. Plan is to use it round the yard. I’ll see how it holds up to use at that time. Case is nothing to brag about, stars off for that reason.
The Opinel NO.8 in SS is about as dead simple and reliable as one will get in this price range. They look fantastic, feel amazing in the hand(adjust what size you buy for different sized hands) and have a style to them that really turns heads when it's in use. What's not to like really?
feels good in hand, light, easy to carry and get out of pocket. Lock feature not aggressive enough to operate smoothly, needs more rise in the dimple?
.... and immediately noticed that the sheath is missing. That was something like a $13 dollar difference. Sucks, but it's a birthday present for my husband tomorrow so he'll just have to go without.
The Opinel No. 8 knife is lightweight, sharp and I like the look of it, as well as the case, which is made of quality leather. The locking mechanism is different than any knife I’ve ever owned, so I enjoy that it is unique and has a vintage feel to it.All things considered, there were two things that I didn’t like: 1) When closed, the blade seems to rest too far within the handle, somewhat covering the nail nick, which makes it hard to grab the blade when opening; 2) On the back of the carrying case, the bottom isn’t centered how it should be, so if worn on a belt it is a little crooked. Overall, just a couple of minor things, not big enough problems to make me want to go through the process to return it.Other notes: This is a good knife for someone with small hands. Mine fit around the handle perfectly. Without knowing how others intend to use this knife, I must mention that I can’t imagine someone with large hands using this knife for an extended period of time. The cutouts at the end probably help with comfort but you’ll have to be the judge.
